What is Bolonoodles?

Bolonoodle, Bolodoodle, Bolognedoodle, or Bolopoo

The Bolonoodles is a designer cross between a Bolognese and a poodle that results in the cutest little teddy bear doodle dog! These teddy bear teacups are so sweet, cuddly, and LOVE going everywhere with you! The Bolonoodle is a relatively new breed, having only been around for the last 15-20 years, and is still fairly uncommon.

The Bolonoodle is a highly intelligent little dog and is also personable and entertaining, making them an ideal companion animal. They have a single-layer coat of soft hair that is either wavy or curly and can come in many different color combinations. As long as the food and treats are monitored, so as to avoid obesity, these animals do not require a large amount of exercise in order to maintain their optimal body condition.

Bolonoodles or bolodoodles are full of love and energy; these dogs are a true pleasure to be around and they will make the perfect companion to anyone seeking an intelligent and loyal breed that will not hesitate to snuggle up or have some fun. Bolonoodles is a cross between a purebred Bolognese and poodle. It is a designer cross that’s only been around for a decade or two. Many of the ruling class prized the little dogs. Bolognese puppies were sometimes given as cherished gifts to visiting royal families and dignitaries.

They are typically small dogs, with a square profile. They are generally compactly built and have a rounded skull; the muzzle can vary anywhere from the finely built long, straight muzzle of the poodle to the shorter, square-shaped muzzle of the Bolognese dog. The ears hang down from the sides of the head, most often to just below the chin, though they can be slightly shorter on occasion. The bolonoodle’s eyes can be either round or slightly oval but will almost always be dark and have an alert and inquisitive expression.

Although many of the bolonoodles dogs do inherit the all-white coat of the Bolognese, they can also get their coloration from the poodle contribution to their genetics, as poodles come in many color

Bolonoodles Qualities and Health Expectancy

It is important to keep in mind that every dog is different, but understanding general qualities and health expectations can help you to make the best decision where your lovable companion is concerned. This is why we require health testing for each of our parent dogs to avoid potential health complications.
Bolonoodles Personality And Temperament
Bolonoodles puppies are very intelligent dogs and although their physical exercise requirements are not high, they do need mental stimulation to keep them from getting into trouble. Bolonoodles are very attentive and may do well at obedience training, but they can become bored if the training is too repetitive. Try to keep it fresh and different and you’ll be surprised how quickly they learn! The bolonoodle breed is an extremely social dog and what they want to be doing most is whatever you are doing; they are typically friendly and affectionate with everybody, family members, strangers, strange dogs, children, and even other animals.

As friendly and outgoing as they are, interaction with very small children or with larger dogs should be limited to calm, supervised play to avoid allowing the dog to get hurt or to develop nipping behaviors as a defense mechanism. These sweetheart teddy bear doodle dogs are not excessively energetic, and while they are always ready to play, they are just as content to curl up beside you or in your lap while you work or relax.
Bolonoodle Health
As is the case with all hybrid dog breeds, bolonoodles has the potential to inherit some of the health conditions that commonly affect its parent breeds, but there is no guarantee that this will happen to your dog. Every canine is an individual and there’s no way to determine what his long-term health will be. Mixed breed dogs tend to be quite healthy compared to purebred canines. Nevertheless, it is good to be aware of the conditions that the Bolognese and poodle breeds are prone to. In particular, you should keep an eye out for problems like hip dysplasia, eye conditions, and obesity.

We strive to have all our parent dogs tested to prevent any of these common problems, but it can’t always be prevented, even in parents that tested clean. Good breeding practices say that having the dam and sire tested beforehand is the best you can do to prevent such issues from arising.

Particular to the bolonoodle puppy is the concern for obesity. Because they love being with their owners and some dogs will eat whatever is given to them, they can have a tendency toward obesity; so as long as their meals are proper size and they get the activity they need this shouldn’t be a concern either.
Teddy Bear Dogs
Bolonoodle puppies are often referred to as teddy bear dogs because of the similar look to that of a teddy bear. Their size is also a big part of why people love calling the bolonoodle a teddy bear doodle dog. They typically range from 5 lbs. up to 15 lbs. Their size depends largely on the size of their parents.

The Bolonoodle has lower exercise needs than many other breeds and is often quite content with several short walks throughout the day, although they will just as happily accompany you on a longer one as well. A rousing session of indoor playtime can be quite satisfactory as well in many cases, as these teddy bear dogs require very little room for a good romp, making them excellent candidates for living in apartments, condos, or townhomes. They are intelligent animals who enjoy and may excel at advanced obedience training. Although the Bolognese was mainly bred to be a companion, the poodle was bred as a water retriever and, as such, your Bolonoodle may enjoy playing fetch or swimming as well.
Bolonoodle Training
The bolonoodle is a breed that is typically easy to train, thanks to this dog’s devotion to his owners, his willingness and eagerness to please, and his high level of intelligence. You will likely find that you’ll need to use fewer repetitions to teach your dog a command, especially when compared to a lot of other canine breeds. This means that you can spend less time training your dog and more time having fun with him. If you are consistent with training that includes treats and rewards, as well as praise and a positive approach, you should find that your teddy bear dog’s behavior improves.

Our Breeding Practices

At Little Teton Doodles, we take great pride in our ethical breeding practices, ensuring our Bolonoodle puppies are happy, healthy, and well-adjusted. Our commitment to responsible breeding includes adhering to strict health testing and screening protocols and providing early socialization and training for our puppies. By prioritizing the well-being of our dogs, we can guarantee that our Bolonoodle puppies will make wonderful companions for their future families.

Ethical Breeding Practices

Our ethical breeding practices begin with the careful selection of our breeding dogs. We choose only the healthiest and most temperamentally sound Bolognese and Poodle parents for our Bolonoodle puppies. We can ensure these traits are passed down to their offspring by selecting dogs with excellent health and temperament.

We also maintain a limited number of breeding dogs and litters, allowing us to provide individualized care and attention to each dog and puppy. Our dogs are raised in a loving, family environment where they are treated as cherished family members. This nurturing environment helps our puppies develop into well-rounded, confident, and affectionate companions.

Health Testing and Screening

Health testing and screening are crucial aspects of our breeding program. Before breeding, we perform comprehensive health tests on the Bolognese and Poodle parents to identify and prevent any potential genetic health issues from being passed down to the puppies. Some of the tests we perform include:

  • Hip and elbow evaluations to screen for dysplasia
  • Eye examinations to detect progressive retinal atrophy and other eye conditions
  • Genetic testing for breed-specific health concerns

By conducting these tests, we can ensure that our Bolonoodle puppies have the best possible start in life and minimize the risk of future health problems.

Socialization and Early Training

At Little Teton Doodles, we understand the importance of early socialization and training for our Bolonoodle puppies. Proper socialization helps puppies develop into well-adjusted, confident, and friendly dogs. From a young age, our puppies are exposed to various people, animals, and environments, which helps them learn to adapt to new situations quickly.

We also begin basic obedience and crate training with our puppies, laying the foundation for their future training and making the transition to their new homes smoother. By providing early socialization and training, we can ensure that our Bolonoodle puppies are well-prepared for their new families and will make excellent companions.
